Librarian Day
October 7, Tuesday
History of the holiday
The holiday was officially established by the decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia in 2004. The choice of date is connected with the opening of the first state library in Armenia — the Mesrop Mashtots National Library, which was founded in October 1832. Since then, this day has become a symbol of love for books, knowledge, and the people who preserve and share them.
Celebration traditions
On this day, various events take place in all libraries of Armenia:
* literary evenings and poetry readings;
* exhibitions of rare editions and antique books;
* meetings with writers, poets, and researchers;
* awards for the best librarians and cultural workers.
In addition, the holiday serves as an occasion to discuss issues of library development, the introduction of new technologies, and the expansion of access to information.
Significance of the holiday
Librarian Day reminds society of the importance of libraries as centers of knowledge, culture, and education. Librarians not only help people find the books they need, but also act as guides to the world of information, contributing to literacy and education in the country.
Interesting fact
The Mesrop Mashtots National Library of Armenia today holds more than 6 million items, including rare manuscripts and antique printed editions, making it one of the largest cultural treasures of the country.
