International Day of Families is celebrated annually on May 15. This day was established by the UN in 1993 to draw attention to the importance of the family as a fundamental unit of society and to raise awareness of the social, economic and demographic processes that affect families around the world.

Main goals of the holiday
Drawing attention to family issues. This day provides an opportunity to talk about the difficulties that families face in different parts of the world. These can be social, economic, legal or cultural challenges that affect the well-being of families.

Support for equality and human rights. The day promotes discussion of issues of equality between men and women, the importance of raising children in an environment of respect for human rights, as well as protecting the rights of children and older family members.

Raising awareness of family policy. International Day of Families provides an opportunity for governments and public organizations to talk about their initiatives and programs aimed at supporting families - from access to health care to improving housing conditions.

Family and sustainable development. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) place the family at the center of the celebration as a structure that promotes gender equality, healthy lifestyles, quality education, and sustainable economic growth.
