World Day of Muslim Culture, Peace, Dialogue and Cinema is observed on 13 May. The day was established in 2011 by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to promote the values of peace, culture, understanding and respect through various forms of art, including cinema.Main Objectives and Significance
Promotion of Muslim Culture. The holiday aims to raise awareness of the rich cultural and historical heritage of Muslim countries, as well as to eliminate stereotypes and misunderstandings associated with Islam and Muslims.
Dialogue and Mutual Understanding. One of the main goals of this day is to encourage intercultural and interreligious dialogue, strengthen the bond between Muslims and other cultures and religions, and prevent conflicts through understanding and cooperation.
Peace through Art. The day emphasizes the importance of art and culture, including cinema, as a means of promoting peace and harmony among people of different nations. Art in this context is used as a way to exchange ideas and cultures, as well as as a tool for conflict resolution.
Developing Cinema as a Tool for Dialogue. This day is dedicated to supporting and disseminating Islamic cinema and works that reflect the values of peace and respect, so that they can serve as a source of knowledge and inspiration for a wider audience.
How is it celebrated?
Film screenings and festivals. Screenings of Islamic films, documentaries and other works of art are held in various countries, illustrating the diversity of Muslim cultures, histories and traditions.
Lectures, seminars and forums. Many organizations and cultural centers organize events aimed at discussing issues of Muslim culture, the importance of peace and dialogue, and the role of art and cinema in shaping these values.
Ceremonies and awards. In some countries, awards may be presented on this day to representatives of the film industry who promote the idea of peace and mutual understanding through their work.
