Malbec World Day
April 17, Thursday

History of the holiday
The holiday was established in 2011 by the Argentine organization Wines of Argentina with the aim of popularizing Argentine wine and drawing attention to Malbec as the leading grape variety of the country.
The date of April 17 was not chosen by chance: on this day in 1853, Argentine President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento commissioned the French agronomist Michel Pouget to bring grape vines from Europe. One of these varieties was Malbec, which perfectly adapted to the climate and soil of the Argentine Andes and over time became a national pride.
Interesting facts
Argentina produces more than 75% of all Malbec in the world.
Malbec is an ideal wine to pair with Argentine cuisine, especially asado (traditional Argentine barbecue).
