Navy Day in Argentina is celebrated with great solemnity on May 17. This day is dedicated to the Argentine Navy and its contribution to the defense of the country, and highlights the role of the Navy in the history and security of the nation.

Navy Day was established in honor of an important historical event: on May 17, 1814, during the Battle of Monte Cervo in La Plata, the Argentine Navy, under the command of Juan Martinez de Rosa, won an important victory over the Spanish Navy during the Argentine War of Independence.

How is Navy Day celebrated?
Ceremonies and parades. On this day, parades and ceremonies are held, especially in large port cities such as Buenos Aires. Warships of the Argentine Navy go out to sea, sail along the coast and perform various maneuvers, demonstrating the strength and cohesion of the fleet.

Ceremonial events. The army and navy hold ceremonies and meetings where military officials and civilians express gratitude for the service of sailors and naval officers. Some ports host public events where residents can see the navy's warships and equipment.

Remembering the heroes of the navy. Schools, military institutions and museums host educational programs and lectures about the importance of the navy to the country, as well as the significance of historical events such as the Battle of Monte Cervo.

Prayers and memorial services. In some regions, prayers and memorial services are held to honor the sailors who died during their service and in the fight for Argentina's independence.
