The Sydney Mardi Gras Festival is an annual celebration of LGBTQ+ culture held in Sydney, Australia, attracting many locals and tourists from around the world. Starting in mid-February and lasting for several weeks, the festival is famous for its grand parade, colourful street events, theatre productions and cultural events aimed at promoting equality, inclusion and human rights.

Festival Highlights
Mardi Gras Parade. The culmination of the festival, where participants in colourful costumes march through the streets of Sydney, representing a variety of groups and organisations. The parade symbolises freedom of expression and unity.

Opening in the Park (Fair Day). A large family event with live performances, shows, picnics and numerous entertainment areas. Everyone from the LGBTQ+ community to families and friends come here.

Arts and Culture Events. Featuring theatre, exhibitions, film screenings and performances that explore themes of gender, sexuality and identity, these events feature local and international artists, visual artists and activists.

Music and Dance Parties. These events feature performances by world-renowned DJs and artists. Nightclubs and dance venues across Sydney host Mardi Gras-themed parties.

Conferences and Education Programs. An important part of the festival, aimed at educating the community about LGBTQ+ rights, anti-discrimination and mental health issues.
