International Day of Pink
April 10, Wednesday
Ontario
International Day of Pink is an annual event held on the second Wednesday of April. The day aims to draw attention to the fight against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia and all forms of hatred. People all over the world wear pink to show their support and solidarity with victims of violence and unfair treatment.History
The idea of International Day of Pink originated in Canada in 2007, when two high school students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, decided to organize an anti-bullying event after they saw one of their classmates being bullied for wearing a pink T-shirt to school. In protest against the injustice and in support of their friend, they bought 50 pink T-shirts and distributed them to other students, thereby showing that such forms of violence are unacceptable.
Since then, the event has grown and turned into an international movement calling on people to wear pink to resist any manifestations of hatred and discrimination.
Goals and Objectives
Anti-bullying. Pink Day aims to combat bullying in schools, colleges and other settings. It encourages people to think about how they can promote tolerance and respect for each other.
Anti-discrimination. The day highlights the importance of combating homophobia, transphobia, sexism and other forms of discrimination.
Promoting inclusion and acceptance. Pink Day helps promote the ideals of inclusion, respect for different identities and views, and creates a safe space for everyone, regardless of their background or preferences.
