Supper and fasting. In many Christian traditions, Christmas Eve is associated with an evening meal, which may consist of Lenten food. In some cultures, it is customary to prepare 12 dishes, symbolizing the 12 apostles.

Festive services. On the evening of December 24, many churches hold a special Christmas service, during which texts from the Bible are read, hymns are sung, and prayers are said. In some churches, a pastoral service is held, in which the birth of Jesus Christ is glorified.

Gifts. In some cultures, gifts are opened on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day, making the evening even more special.

Family Traditions. Christmas Eve is a time for family gatherings. People come together to spend time with each other, share good wishes and stories, and remember the meaning of Christmas.

Different Traditions. Christmas Eve traditions can vary by country and culture. For example, some countries place special emphasis on carols, which are festive songs sung on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Markets. Some countries, such as Germany and Austria, host Christmas markets where you can buy festive treats, gifts, and decorations.

Christmas Stories. Some families traditionally read Christmas stories or talk about the meaning of Christmas, which helps to pass on values ​​and traditions to new generations.

Some Orthodox churches, including the Russian Orthodox Church and Greek Catholics, continue to celebrate Christmas on December 25th, but according to the Julian calendar (old style), and this day falls on January 7th according to the Gregorian calendar, so for them Christmas Eve falls on January 6th.
