Pilot Day in Brazil is a national holiday celebrated annually on October 23. It is dedicated to all pilots, both civil and military, and recognizes their contribution to the development of the country, transportation, and defense.

History of the holiday
The date October 23 was chosen for a reason: on this day in 1906, Brazilian inventor and aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont made the first successful flight in a heavier-than-air aircraft called 14-bis. The flight took place in Paris and became a historic event, as it was the first officially recorded and verified flight of an airplane taking off independently, without external assistance.

Santos-Dumont is considered a national hero of Brazil and a symbol of innovation. In honor of his achievements, this day became an official holiday for all pilots in the country.

Significance of the holiday
Pilot Day pays tribute to those who dedicated themselves to the profession of flying and contributed to the development of aviation, as well as to strengthening defense capabilities and regional connectivity in Brazil. The holiday highlights the importance of aviation for a country with a vast territory and diverse natural conditions.

How the holiday is celebrated
On this day, ceremonial events and activities are organized by the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira), aviation academies, and aeroclubs. Common celebrations include:

* airshows and demonstration flights;
