Lovers' Day, known in Portuguese as "Dia dos Namorados," is Brazil's equivalent of Valentine's Day. It is a celebration of love and romance between couples, observed annually on June 12th.

Why June 12th?
Unlike many countries that celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14th, Brazil chose June 12th because it is the eve of Saint Anthony's Day (June 13th). Saint Anthony is known in Brazil as the patron saint of marriage and matchmaking, making the date especially meaningful for couples.

How is it Celebrated?
On this day, couples in Brazil typically:

- Exchange gifts such as chocolates, flowers, and perfumes
- Enjoy romantic dinners at home or in restaurants
- Write love letters or cards
- Spend quality time together, often with special surprises or getaways

Commercial and Cultural Significance
Lovers' Day is a major commercial holiday in Brazil, with retailers offering special promotions on romantic gifts. It is also a culturally significant occasion, with music, television specials, and themed events celebrating love and relationships.

Differences from Valentine's Day
While similar in spirit to Valentine's Day, Lovers' Day in Brazil is more focused on romantic relationships rather than friendships or family love. Additionally, because Carnival often falls in February, Brazil opted for a different date to avoid overlapping with the country's biggest festival.
