International Fairy Day
June 24, Tuesday

Origin story
The holiday was established by fantasy artist Jessica Galbreth. The date of June 24 was likely chosen due to its connection with Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the midsummer season, when fairies, according to legends, are most active.
The magical image of fairies
According to Western folklore and culture:
* They first appear in European mythology of the Middle Ages, or even earlier (Greek nymphs, Sanskrit gandharvas, Arab jinns).
* Associated with Celtic culture, they live in forests, hills, near lakes, and in fairy rings.
* In classical literature – small winged beings; a legend by J. M. Barrie claims that fairies were born from a baby's first laugh.
Why celebrate?
* To support imagination and creativity in children and adults.
* To preserve the connection with folklore, fairy tales, and cultural traditions.
How to celebrate Fairy Day?
Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate Fairy Day:
* Read fairy tales – Shakespeare, Perrault, Andersen, and other authors.
* Watch films – old classics or modern fantasy.
* Decorate your home or dress up in fairy costumes, distribute glitter and "fairy dust".
* Create a "fairy" garden – miniature houses, figurines, and a beautifully decorated green space.
* If you have pets, you can also dress them up (for example, add wings or a light accessory).
Fun facts
* Terms: today fairies are also called fay, fae, fey, fair folk, and others.
* Originally, fairies had no wings – they appeared in the era of Romanticism and Victorian literature.
* It is believed fairies can be seen at twilight, on Beltane, Midsummer’s Day, and Halloween.
* Fairy rings – mushroom circles – are seen as portals linked to fairy energies.
