Babiy Den, also known as Babiy Naminy, is a traditional Slavic holiday celebrated on January 8, the day after Christmas. It was dedicated to midwives, women who delivered babies and provided assistance to women in labor, playing an important role in village communities.

Midwives were highly respected by the people, because the health and life of the mother and child depended on their experience and skills. Babiy Den was a time when they were honored and thanked for their work. This day was also a symbolic holiday for all women, especially those involved in childbirth, and their honoring became an important part of the folk tradition.

Holiday Traditions
Hospitality and Treats. On Babiy Den, it was customary to visit the midwife with gifts and treats. They brought her food, sweets, linen, fabric, which she could use for home or work. In response, the grandmother would throw a feast for the women who came to congratulate her.

Rituals and rituals. In some regions, there were rituals that were intended to ensure the health of children and women. Women prayed together, participated in cleansing rituals that were supposed to ensure the well-being of families.

Women's meetings. Women's Day was also a day of women's solidarity, when women gathered together, discussed their affairs, shared experiences and knowledge related to childbirth and raising children.

Comic games. In some areas, the celebration was accompanied by funny jokes and games. It was a day when women could laugh and take a break from everyday worries.

Nowadays, Women's Day is no longer a widely celebrated event, but in some regions, traditions of honoring midwives are preserved. In addition, this holiday in a modern interpretation can symbolize gratitude to all women who help others in difficult moments of life, be they doctors, midwives or just caring relatives.
