History of the Holiday
The rebellions of 1837–1838 arose from the population's dissatisfaction with the regime of the British colonial administration. The main participants in these events were the patriots, supporters of democratic reforms. Although the rebellions were suppressed, they left an important legacy for the development of democracy in Canada.
