On July 1st, Newfoundland and Labrador commemorate Memorial Day, dedicated to honoring the soldiers who died in the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel in 1916, where nearly 700 Canadians from the 1st Newfoundland Regiment perished.
When and Where It Takes Place
Memorial Day was established in 1917 and now includes ceremonies, parades, and moments of silence. The event also coincides with Canada Day, emphasizing the importance of remembering the region's military sacrifices.
