International Mountaineering Day, also known as Alpinism Day, is celebrated annually on August 8. This day is dedicated to all those who are passionate about climbing mountain peaks, from professional climbers to amateurs, and symbolizes respect for this extreme sport that requires physical fitness, fortitude and love of nature.

History of the holiday
August 8 was chosen as the day to celebrate International Mountaineering Day in honor of the first successful ascent of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps, which lies on the border between France and Italy. This ascent took place in 1786, when two climbers, Michel-Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat, reached the summit of Mont Blanc, opening a new era of mountaineering. Since then, this day has become a symbol of achievements in mountaineering and has inspired many generations of climbers around the world.

Events
On this day, climbers, athletes and amateurs gather for various events:

Mountain climbs. Many mountaineering groups organize special hikes and climbs to the peaks, paying tribute to those who discovered this sport.
Educational programs. Seminars and lectures are held on mountain safety, mountaineering skills and sustainable tourism in mountain regions.
Conferences and meetings. Mountaineering communities meet, share experiences and plan new expeditions.
Exhibitions and film screenings. Films about famous climbs, climbers and natural wonders of the mountains are shown.

International Mountaineering Day is a holiday that reminds us of courage, perseverance and love for the mountains.
