International Day of Women Judges
March 10, Monday

History of the Day
The International Day of Women Judges was first established in 1994 by the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ). This date was chosen not only to acknowledge the contributions of women to the judicial system but also to draw attention to the challenges women face working in the legal sector.
Objectives of the Day
The day has several objectives:
- Recognize the achievements of women judges worldwide.
- Raise awareness about the importance of female presence in courts and legal institutions.
- Highlight the barriers faced by women judges and fight for their equal rights.
- Encourage young people, particularly girls, to be interested in and pursue a legal career.
The Role of Women in the Judicial System
Women working as judges play a crucial role in ensuring justice and equality within the legal system. Their presence is vital for ensuring more diverse and fair decisions and ensuring that the judicial system reflects the diversity of society.
Currently, women represent a significant portion of the judicial system in many countries, but there is still a need to increase their representation, especially in the highest judicial bodies.
How is International Day of Women Judges Celebrated?
Various events are held on this day to raise awareness about women's rights and their role in the legal system. These events can include:
- Conferences and symposiums on the role of women in justice.
- Exhibitions on the achievements of women judges.
- Webinars and online courses to raise awareness about gender equality in the legal profession.
- Recognition of the achievements of women judges through awards and public honors.
Why is this Day Important?
The International Day of Women Judges helps strengthen the position of women in the legal system and promotes the fight against gender stereotypes that still exist in the judicial sector. This day reminds us of the importance of balance in justice and that only equality and inclusivity can lead to fair decisions.
Additionally, this day serves as an example for young girls and women, encouraging them to pursue a career in justice, where they can make a significant contribution to justice and equality in society.
