History of the holiday
Overseas Chinese Day was established by the State Council of China in 1990. October 21 was chosen to commemorate the founding of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Relatives (中华全国归国华侨联合会), created in 1956. This organization has played an important role in uniting the Chinese diaspora and supporting returned overseas Chinese.
Meaning of the term “Huaqiao”
