International Youth Day is celebrated on 12 August each year and was established by the United Nations to raise awareness of issues affecting young people. The day highlights the importance of youth engagement in global issues and highlights the challenges young people face, including education, employment, mental health and social inclusion.

History
International Youth Day was proposed by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, held in 1998 in Lisbon, Portugal. The UN General Assembly supported the initiative and officially established the day in 1999.

Events
International Youth Day is accompanied by various events around the world, organized by governments, non-governmental organizations and young people themselves. The main forms of celebration include:

Forums and conferences. Young people discuss important social and economic issues, share their ideas and proposals for solving global problems.
Educational and awareness-raising events. Seminars, lectures and trainings are held to develop skills that will help young people better integrate into society.
Cultural events. Music and dance festivals, exhibitions and other cultural events help celebrate the contribution of young people to art and culture.
Social projects. On this day, many youth organizations hold charity events, environmental events and volunteer projects to help vulnerable groups.

International Youth Day is not only a holiday, but also an important reminder that young people play a central role in creating a better world. Involving young people in public life, addressing global issues and protecting their rights are key steps towards building a sustainable and fair future.
