Easter Tuesday (called the Third Day of Easter in Cyprus, Greek: Τρίτη της Διακαινησίμου) is the third day of the Easter celebrations, which is part of Bright Week. In Cyprus, where the Orthodox tradition plays an important role, Easter Tuesday continues the joyful celebration of the Resurrection of Christ and is accompanied by special rituals, family gatherings and public festivities.

Easter Tuesday Traditions
Continuation of Easter Liturgies. On Easter Tuesday, the churches of Cyprus continue their services dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ. These services are filled with joy and gratitude for the victory of life over death. Believers come to churches to participate in prayers and give thanks for blessings.

Family Dinners. Easter week is a time for family gatherings. On Easter Tuesday, families gather around a large table to share traditional dishes. Among them are souvla (Greek kebab), flaounes (Easter pies with cheese and raisins), loukoumades (fried doughnuts with honey).

Festivities and games. In the villages and small towns of Cyprus, folk celebrations are often organized on this day. Residents participate in traditional games, dances and songs. One of the popular games is “τράβηγμα του σχοινιού” (tug of war), as well as running and jumping competitions.

Visiting relatives and loved ones. Throughout Easter week, including Tuesday, it is customary to visit relatives, friends and neighbors to exchange congratulations and good wishes. Guests are often presented with eggs dyed red, symbolizing the blood of Christ and new life.
