The goal of the EOKA struggle was to achieve independence from Great Britain and unification with Greece. As a result of negotiations in 1959, Cyprus gained independence, which was officially proclaimed on August 16, 1960.

Official ceremonies. On this day, solemn events are held with the participation of government officials, veterans of the liberation movement and youth.
Memorial events. Wreaths are laid at monuments and memorials to EOKA fighters.
