World Asthma Day is observed annually on the first Tuesday in May. The day was established in 1998 by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) to raise awareness of this chronic disease, improve care and support for people suffering from asthma.

Objectives of the holiday
Raising awareness. The main goal of World Asthma Day is to inform the public about the symptoms, causes and treatments of this disease to help people recognize and manage asthma.

Improving treatment and care. World Asthma Day aims to improve medical care and expand access to medications for people with asthma, especially in countries with low levels of health care.

Asthma support. The holiday also helps improve the quality of life of people with asthma by providing information on preventing attacks and ways to improve disease control.

Promoting a healthy lifestyle. Prevention measures such as reducing exposure to asthma triggers such as pollen, dust, air pollution and other allergens are discussed.

How World Asthma Day is Celebrated
Medical and Educational Campaigns: The day features seminars, lectures and consultations organised by doctors and health care providers. This helps patients better understand their symptoms, how to manage the disease and prevent exacerbations.

Community Events: The day features events aimed at raising awareness of asthma, its impact on society and the need for better medical support.

Social Media: Social media is used to share information, videos and stories of people living with asthma to raise awareness of the disease and its prevention.

Research Support: The day is used to actively raise the need for more research to develop new treatments for asthma.
