Baltic Sea Day is an annual international holiday celebrated on March 22. It was established to draw attention to environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of the resources of the Baltic Sea, one of the largest and most ecologically vulnerable seas in the world.Events
On Baltic Sea Day, various events are organized in the countries washed by its waters (Russia, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia):
Environmental campaigns. Organizing coastal cleanups and clean-up days. Planting plants that help prevent coastal erosion.
Scientific conferences and seminars. Environmental issues such as water conditions, the impact of climate change and methods for restoring the marine ecosystem are discussed.
Exhibitions and educational events. Museums and nature conservation centers hold thematic exhibitions dedicated to the flora and fauna of the Baltic Sea. Lectures and interactive classes on ecology are organized in schools and universities.
Cultural events. Concerts, theater performances and art exhibitions dedicated to marine themes. TV and radio programs that tell about the history and importance of the sea.
