World Tourism Day is an annual international holiday celebrated on September 27. It was established by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 1979 to highlight the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, economic and environmental impacts on the global community.

The Importance of Tourism
Tourism is one of the largest sectors of the world economy. It contributes to:

Cultural exchange. Travel promotes mutual understanding, tolerance and respect for cultural differences.
Protection of natural resources. Sustainable tourism supports environmental projects and protects unique ecosystems.
Social progress. Tourism creates opportunities for economic growth in rural and underdeveloped regions.

Various events dedicated to World Tourism Day are held in different countries:

Forums and conferences where current tourism issues, its prospects and impact on the global economy and environment are discussed.
Cultural events and exhibitions demonstrating the cultural heritage of different nations and regions.
Free excursions and programs for tourists. In some countries, museums, parks and tourist sites provide free admission or special offers for tourists.
