Geek Pride Day
May 25, Saturday
International Geek Day is an annual holiday celebrated on May 25th. It was created to honor and celebrate geek culture and all people who are passionate about technology, science, fiction, computer games and pop culture. This day is an opportunity to proudly show off your passions and bring people together with common interests.History and Origin
International Geek Day was first celebrated in Spain in 2006. This holiday was initiated by blogger Germano Martinez, who wanted to give people who consider themselves "geeks" a day to celebrate their identity and culture. The date of May 25th was chosen for a reason: this day also marks Towel Day in honor of writer Douglas Adams (author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy") and the anniversary of the premiere of the first "Star Wars" film in 1977.
Holiday Traditions
Online Events and Flash Mobs. On Geek Day, many people and communities gather online to discuss their hobbies, share memes, and participate in discussions on forums and social networks. Various themed events are held on this day, such as virtual exhibitions or game streams.
Cosplay. Geeks often celebrate this day by dressing up as their favorite characters from movies, comics, or video games. Cosplay has become an important part of geek culture and is especially popular among fans of comics, anime, and science fiction.
Attending Conventions. Large cities may host geek conventions where people gather to discuss their hobbies, meet like-minded people, exchange goods, and participate in themed events such as gaming tournaments or costume-making workshops.
Watching Movies and TV Series. On this day, geeks often organize screenings of cult films and TV series such as Star Wars, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Doctor Who and many others.
E-sports and games. Video game lovers can organize tournaments for their favorite games or simply spend the day enjoying their hobbies. Geek culture is closely connected with the world of games, so tournaments and competitions are often held on this day.
