Divine Mercy Sunday is a Catholic holiday celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. It is dedicated to God's mercy, especially as manifested through Jesus Christ. This is a relatively new holiday in the Catholic tradition, established in 2000 by Pope John Paul II.

Origins of the holiday
The holiday is connected to the revelations of Saint Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun, who, according to her account, was visited by Jesus in the 1930s and received a message about the importance of God's mercy. She kept a diary where she described these visions in detail.

Main elements of the holiday
- A special Mass with a focus on God's mercy
- Confession and Communion, accompanied by the promise of full forgiveness of sins and punishment
- The "Chaplet of Divine Mercy," which believers recite on this day
- An image of the Merciful Jesus with the inscription: "Jesus, I trust in You"

The holiday emphasizes the central message of Christianity — mercy, forgiveness, and hope. It calls believers to trust in God and to perform good deeds toward others.
