Our Lady of Candelaria Day is a Catholic holiday dedicated to Our Lady of Candelaria, one of the venerated forms of the Virgin Mary, especially widespread in Spain and Latin America. The holiday is celebrated annually on February 2, the day of the Presentation of the Lord, and is associated with ancient Christian and local traditions.

Origin
The name of the holiday comes from the Latin word "candelarum", which means "candle". On this day, candles are lit and blessed, symbolizing Christ as the Light of the world, which is associated with the celebration of the Presentation, when the baby Jesus was brought to the temple.

The image of Our Lady of Candelaria is especially famous in the Canary Islands, in particular on the island of Tenerife, where she is considered the patroness of the archipelago. According to legend, the image of the Virgin Mary was found by the Guanches, the indigenous inhabitants of Tenerife, before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors. After that, it became an important religious symbol for the local population, and later for the entire region.

The Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria is accompanied by many religious and cultural traditions that vary depending on the region.
