Independence Day of Guatemala (Día de la Independencia) is celebrated annually on September 15. This day is dedicated to the proclamation of the country’s independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1821, alongside other Central American countries.

History of the holiday
Guatemala, together with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua, gained independence from Spain on September 15, 1821. This day became a symbol of freedom, national sovereignty, and self-determination. Since then, the celebration of independence has become an important part of national identity and patriotic education for citizens.
