Day of the adoption of the Resolution on the Secession of Međimurje from the Hungarian State
January 9, Thursday

This day is an official memorial day in Croatia, established in 2005 by a decision of the Croatian Parliament.
On January 9, 1919, in Čakovec, at the square in front of the Franciscan church, the Great National Assembly gathered and unanimously adopted the Resolution on the separation of Međimurje from Hungary and its union with Croatia.
Međimurje, located in northern Croatia, had long been under Hungarian control. The 1919 Resolution symbolized the final separation of the region from Hungary and its integration into Croatia, which was an important step in strengthening Croatian statehood.
On this day, various events are held in Međimurje, including wreath-laying and commemorative ceremonies, to honor those who contributed to this historic event.
