Day of the Sacredness of Pancasila (Hari Kesaktian Pancasila) is celebrated in Indonesia every year on October 1. This national holiday is dedicated to the ideological foundations of the country — Pancasila, the five principles that form the basis of national unity and the state.

Historical context

* On the night of September 30 to October 1, 1965, there was an attempted coup, known as the September 30 Movement (Gerakan 30 September).
* As a result of the uprising, six generals and several officers of the Indonesian army were killed.
* After the suppression of the rebellion, the government emphasized the importance of Pancasila as the foundation of statehood and a symbol of national unity.
* Since 1967, October 1 has been officially celebrated as the Day of the Sacredness of Pancasila.

Traditions and celebrations
On this day, state and public events take place:

* ceremonial events with the participation of the president, government, and army;
* laying of wreaths at the memorials of the generals who died in 1965;
* raising of the national flag and performance of the anthem;
* educational programs in schools and universities dedicated to Pancasila;
