Vaisakhi (or Baisakhi) is an important agricultural and religious festival celebrated in Punjab and other parts of India, as well as among Sikhs worldwide. It falls on 14 April and marks the beginning of a new agricultural year, and has special significance for Sikhs as the Khalsa, the community of pure Sikhs, was founded on this day.

Historical Significance
Agricultural Aspect. Vaisakhi is traditionally associated with the beginning of the rice harvest in Punjab. It is a time of gratitude for a successful harvest and blessings for the coming agricultural cycle. In rural India, it is one of the most significant festivals, when farmers pray for the fertility of the land and a good harvest.

Religious Significance for Sikhs. In 1699, the Khalsa, a Sikh fraternity, was founded on the day of Vaisakhi by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru. This day was an important event in the history of Sikhism, as it marked a new era for the believers, when they began to wear special symbols (the five "Ks" - Kesh (uncut hair), Kara (iron bracelet), Kirpan (sword), Kachera (special trousers) and Kanga (comb)).

How the holiday is celebrated
Religious ceremonies. On the day of Vaisakhi, Sikhs gather in gurdwaras (Sikh temples) to participate in morning prayers, listen to gurbani (sacred songs) and read sacred texts. It is a day of spiritual purification and strengthening of faith.

Dance and music. In Punjab, Vaisakhi is accompanied by colorful folk festivals. People dance Bhangra and Gidda, traditional Punjabi folk dances that symbolize joy and gratitude. Music plays an important role in the celebrations, accompanying ceremonies and festivals.

Festive processions. In major cities of Punjab and other places where Sikhs live, colorful festive processions known as Nagar Kheitan take place. These processions involve people carrying holy books and engaging in prayers.

Spiritual renewal and New Year traditions. In some parts of India, such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, Vaisakhi is also an important time for family reunions and celebrations. People hold gatherings, give gifts and clean their houses.
