Jaya Ekadashi is an important Hindu religious festival that occurs on the eleventh lunar day (ekadashi) of the bright half of the month of Maagha in the Hindu calendar, which usually falls in January-February in the Gregorian calendar. This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu, and fasting on this day is considered especially auspicious for achieving spiritual purity and liberation from sins.

Significance of Jaya Ekadashi
Purification from sins. According to Hindu scriptures, Jaya Ekadashi helps to get rid of all sins and accumulate good karma. It is believed that one who observes fasting on Jaya Ekadashi can attain liberation (moksha) and enter the kingdom of Lord Vishnu.

Protection from evil spirits. According to mythology, a person who observes Jaya Ekadashi is freed from the fear of demons and evil influences. Legend has it that even beings cursed to become demons can be freed from their curse through the grace of Vishnu on this day.

Legend of Jaya Ekadashi:
One of the popular legends associated with this festival tells of a Gandharva (celestial musician) named Malyavan and his lover Pushpavati. Due to careless behavior during one of the festivals, Lord Indra cursed them and they were turned into demons. However, by observing a fast on Jaya Ekadashi, they were freed from the curse and returned to their heavenly status. This story illustrates the power of observing a fast on Jaya Ekadashi and the grace of Lord Vishnu.

Rituals and Traditions
Fasting. The most important practice of Jaya Ekadashi is a strict fast observed by devotees of Vishnu. The fast can be complete (without food and water) or partial (depending on the health and capabilities of the person), with only fruits and water. An important aspect of the fast is abstinence from grains and legumes.

Prayers and meditations. On this day, devotees recite prayers and mantras dedicated to Vishnu, such as the mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya". They also perform puja (worship ritual), offering flowers, fruits and incense to the Lord.

Reading sacred texts. On the day of Jaya Ekadashi, devotees read or listen to narrations from Vishnu-smriti or other sacred texts that glorify Vishnu and describe the virtues of Ekadashi.
