Sizdah be-dar (Sizdah be-dar) is one of the most popular and significant holidays in Iran, which is celebrated on the 13th day of the month of Farvardin in the Iranian calendar (usually on April 1 in the Gregorian calendar). It is the day of the end of the Iranian New Year (Solar New Year, Norouz) celebrations, which lasts 13 days, and the last day of these festivities.Holiday Traditions
Picnics and outdoor recreation. The main tradition of Sizdah be-dar is going out into nature - to fields, forests or parks. People take food with them, often traditional dishes, and spend time outdoors.
Fun and Games. On this day, people in Iran often play various folk games, such as football, volleyball, and other outdoor activities.
Nature Rituals. There is a tradition of "throwing out green shoots", which were used throughout Norouz. It is considered a symbolic act of getting rid of bad energies and old things.
Cleansing and Renewal. Sizdah be-dar is also associated with cleansing. People may “cleanse” their homes by cleaning or removing unnecessary things to welcome the new year with a clean start.
