World Obesity Day is observed annually on March 4. This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the problems associated with obesity and measures for its prevention and treatment. World Obesity Day was initiated by the World Obesity Federation with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Important aspects of the obesity problem
A global problem. According to WHO, the number of people with obesity continues to grow, and today about 13% of the adult population in the world suffers from obesity. Obesity also affects about 40 million children under five years of age.

Risk factors. Among the main causes are poor diet, lack of physical activity, stress and genetic predisposition. Economic factors and the availability of high-calorie foods also play a role.

Obesity-related diseases. Obesity increases the risk of serious diseases, including hypertension, stroke, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

How World Obesity Day is Celebrated
Educational events. Schools, universities, health care institutions and public organizations hold lectures, seminars and webinars dedicated to the problem of obesity.

Awareness campaigns. Campaigns are launched in the media and social networks to talk about the importance of proper nutrition, physical activity and health care.

Mass events and fitness activities. Sports events such as jogging, yoga classes and group fitness classes are organized to emphasize the importance of movement and an active lifestyle.

Consultations and medical examinations. On this day, some health centers offer free consultations, tests and examinations to help people learn more about their health.

Political initiatives. Some countries use this day to promote new programs and laws aimed at combating obesity, such as subsidies for healthy food, regulation of fast food advertising and increasing the availability of sports programs.
