110 Day is a Japanese national holiday celebrated annually on January 10th. It is dedicated to the popularization of the emergency telephone number 110, used in Japan to call the police. This day was created to raise awareness among the population about the correct use of emergency services and the need to call them only in the event of a real threat or emergency.

History and purpose of the holiday
Number 110 Day was established in 1985 by the Japanese police department. The number was introduced in 1948 as a nationwide system for quickly calling the police, and since then it has become an important part of the Japanese security system. The holiday on January 10th was symbolically chosen because the date - 1.10 - is consonant with the number 110.

How is Number 110 Day celebrated?
Public events. In major cities in Japan, special events are held on this day, which are organized by the police. These may include demonstrations of police work, presentations, exhibitions and interactive seminars where citizens are told how to act correctly in an emergency.

Memoranda and information campaigns. Information materials, memoranda and booklets are distributed throughout the country, which explain in detail the rules for using the 110 number and other important issues related to safety.

Campaigns in schools. Classes and trainings are held in educational institutions, where children are explained how and when to call the police. Such events help students understand in which cases it is necessary to call 110.
