World Humanitarian Day (World Humanitarian Day) is observed annually on August 19. It is dedicated to honoring humanitarian workers who provide aid to victims of armed conflicts, natural disasters, and other crises. The date was chosen in memory of the tragedy of August 19, 2003, when an attack in Baghdad claimed the lives of 22 people, including Sérgio Vieira de Mello, the United Nations Special Representative in Iraq.

Purpose of the Day
The main goal of World Humanitarian Day is to raise awareness about the work of humanitarian organizations, support volunteers and workers who assist people in extreme conditions, and draw attention to the problems faced by disaster victims.

How is World Humanitarian Day Celebrated?
- organization of thematic events and conferences
- informational campaigns about humanitarian missions
- recognition and awards for humanitarian workers
- fundraising and humanitarian aid collection for those in need
