On June 24, 2022, the UN adopted resolution A/RES/76/269, proclaiming this day as the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. The purpose is to recognize the contributions of women in diplomacy, promote gender equality, and strengthen their participation in international processes at all levels.
The resolution was initiated by a group of countries, including the Maldives, El Salvador, Latvia, Malta, and others.
