Founding Day of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is celebrated annually on September 9. It is one of the main national holidays of North Korea, dedicated to the proclamation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1948.

History of the holiday
On September 9, 1948, the DPRK was officially proclaimed in Pyongyang. The first head of government was Kim Il Sung. This day marked the formal division of the Korean Peninsula into two states — North Korea and South Korea.

Founding Day of the DPRK has a special symbolic meaning for the country:
