Armed Forces Day (국군의 날, Gukguninal) is celebrated annually in South Korea on October 1. This day is dedicated to honoring the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea and strengthening national spirit. It was established in 1956 to remind citizens of the importance of the military in defending the country, especially after the Korean War.

Reason for the date
October 1 was chosen to commemorate the day in 1950 during the Korean War when South Korean troops first crossed the 38th parallel during a successful advance after the Battle of Incheon.

On this day, various official events and public celebrations take place across the country:

* military parades in Seoul and other major cities;

* cultural programs and concerts for citizens and military members.

Significance of the holiday
Armed Forces Day plays an important role in strengthening patriotism and national unity. It reminds South Korean citizens of the significance of military service, respect for the armed forces, and the importance of maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula.
