Pathet Lao Day, celebrated on January 6 in Laos, commemorates the victory of the Pathet Lao military and political force over the royal army. The day symbolizes an important moment in the country's history when the Pathet Lao, driven by socialist ideology, won a victory and became a key player in the process of changing political power in Laos.

In 1975, the Pathet Lao, supported by North Vietnamese troops and other communist forces, won a civil war against the royal government. This led to the end of the monarchy and the establishment of a socialist government.
