International Anti-Corruption Day is celebrated annually on December 9. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003 after the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption. The main goal of this day is to draw the attention of the global community to the issue of corruption, raise awareness of its destructive consequences, and promote active efforts to combat this phenomenon.

Corruption is the abuse of power or office for personal gain. It manifests in forms such as bribery, extortion, fraud, embezzlement, and other illegal actions that undermine trust in public and private institutions. Corruption damages the economy, weakens democratic processes, violates principles of justice, and hampers sustainable development.

United Nations Convention against Corruption
In 2003, the UN Convention against Corruption was signed, which is a key international document aimed at preventing and combating corruption. It provides for measures to prevent corruption, improve international cooperation, recover stolen assets, and strengthen the legal and institutional frameworks for fighting corruption.
