World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated annually on April 26 to raise awareness of the importance of intellectual property (IP) in fostering innovation and creativity. The day was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to coincide with the entry into force of the Convention establishing WIPO in 1970.

Intellectual property covers intangible products of the human mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, as well as symbols, names and images used in commerce.

How World Intellectual Property Day is Celebrated
Educational Programs. WIPO and national patent offices organize conferences, seminars and webinars to discuss IP protection and the importance of patenting inventions and protecting copyrights.

Promotional Campaigns. On this day, campaigns are held to inform the general public about how intellectual property affects everyday life, business and culture.

Contests and Awards. Many countries hold competitions for young inventors, start-ups and companies that demonstrate successful use of IP rights. Awards are given to those who have made a significant contribution to the development of innovation or art.

Educational events. Lectures, round tables and presentations are held in schools and universities on the importance of IP for scientific progress and creative industries.

World Intellectual Property Day is an important holiday that emphasizes the need to respect and protect the rights of creators and inventors.
