Christmas
January 7, Sunday
December 25, Wednesday
Day off: December 26, Thursday
Christmas is one of the most important Christian holidays, celebrated on December 25 (according to the Gregorian calendar) or January 7 (according to the Julian calendar) in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ. This holiday symbolizes the coming of the Savior into the world and is a celebration of joy, love, and unity. Christmas is connected with the Gospel account of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. According to Christian tradition, Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary in a manger because there was no room in the inns of Bethlehem. Wise men from the East came to worship the child and brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.Celebration Traditions:
Church services. Christmas liturgy is held on the night of December 24-25 (or January 6-7). Churches light candles and sing festive hymns.
Home decorations: People decorate their homes with Christmas symbols such as Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and candles. The Christmas tree symbolizes eternal life, and the star at the top represents the Star of Bethlehem.
Gifts. The exchange of gifts symbolizes the gifts brought by the Wise Men to the newborn Jesus. In many countries, Santa Claus or Saint Nicholas brings gifts to children.
Christmas dishes. Depending on the country, festive dishes may vary, but traditional treats are often present on the table. For example, in Russia, this includes kutya, while in Western countries it usually features turkey and sweets.
Christmas is celebrated worldwide, although traditions may vary depending on the culture and country. This holiday is a time for family gatherings, spiritual renewal, and charity.
