International Roma Day is celebrated on 8 April each year. The day is dedicated to the culture, history and rights of Roma (Gypsies), and draws attention to the problems of discrimination and infringement of rights that Roma face around the world.

History of International Roma Day
International Roma Day was established in 1990 at the First World Roma Congress in the Prague Declaration, with the aim of raising awareness of the cultural heritage of the Roma, as well as to focus attention on the problems that Roma face. The choice of date is associated with an important historical event: it was on 8 April 1971 that the first World Roma Congress was held in London, where the World Roma Federation was founded, and symbols were chosen - the flag and the anthem of the Roma.

Symbols of the day
Roma flag. The flag symbolizing the Roma people consists of two horizontal stripes: blue (top) and green (bottom), and in the center is a wheel - a symbol of travel and travel, which was important to the nomadic way of life of the Roma.

Roma Anthem. The anthem is called "Goeste", which means "Farewell" in Romani. It is a song about the fate and struggle of the Roma, it expresses their desire for freedom and equality.

How is International Roma Day celebrated
Cultural events. On this day, festivals, concerts, exhibitions and other events are held that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Roma. Music and dance performances, craft fairs - all this helps people learn about the Roma culture.

Educational initiatives. In some countries, lectures, seminars and presentations are held on the history of the Roma, their culture and rights. It is also a day for discussing current social issues, such as the fight against discrimination and the fight for human rights.

Political actions. In some countries, demonstrations and rallies are held on April 8 to draw attention to the problems of Roma communities, such as infringement of rights, social exclusion and poverty.

Publications and publications. On this day, various reports, studies and other materials are released, dedicated to the situation of Roma in different countries and measures to protect their rights.
