Children's Day
June 1, Sunday
November 20, Thursday

Origin
The idea of an official holiday for children was first proposed in the early 20th century. One of the first countries to celebrate such a day was Turkey in 1920. In 1954, the UN recommended that member states establish their own Children’s Day to raise awareness of children's rights and the well-being of the younger generation.
Goals of the holiday
Children’s Day in all countries serves one or more of the following purposes:
* celebrating childhood as a value
* drawing attention to children's issues in society
* strengthening the role of the family and school
* promoting education and cultural development
* protecting the rights and freedoms of the child
Celebration dates in different countries
Since this is not a unified international holiday, different countries have set their own dates:
* Japan — May 5 (part of the Golden Week)
* India — November 14 (birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru)
* Brazil — October 12
* Germany — September 20
* South Korea — May 5
* China, Ukraine, Russia, and other countries — June 1 (as part of International Children’s Day)
Traditions and activities
On Children’s Day, the following are usually held:
* festive concerts, festivals, and games
* events in schools and kindergartens
* excursions, gifts, creative contests
* initiatives to improve children's living conditions
* educational campaigns on children's rights
Features
Children’s Day is not so much an official date as a cultural phenomenon. It helps strengthen the connection between children, parents, and society and has a unique character and tradition in each country.
