International Children’s Day is an important international and national holiday celebrated annually on June 1. It is dedicated to the protection of children's rights, well-being, and a happy childhood for every child.

History of the holiday
Children's Day was first celebrated in 1950. The decision to establish it was made by the International Democratic Federation of Women at a congress in Paris in 1949. Ukraine, as the legal successor to the USSR, has officially observed this day since the early 1990s.

Purpose of the holiday
Children's Day aims to:

* draw attention to issues of childhood
* ensure children's rights to life, education, protection, and development
* create a favorable environment for raising the younger generation
* encourage public initiatives in the field of child policy

How it is celebrated
On this day, events are held across Ukraine and in other countries, including:

* concerts, festivals, and creative activities
* sports competitions and entertainment programs
* charity events supporting orphans and children in need
* children's art exhibitions, contests, and workshops
* round tables, lectures, and seminars on child protection and children's rights

Who participates
The holiday involves active participation from:

* national and local government bodies
* schools, kindergartens, and extracurricular institutions
* public and charitable organizations
* volunteers, educators, parents, and concerned citizens

Symbols of the holiday
One of the international symbols of child protection is the color green — symbolizing life, growth, and hope — along with the image of the planet and stylized figures of children holding hands.

This day serves as a reminder that children are not only the future but also the present of society, and their well-being must always be a priority.
