World Day Against Speciesism
August 31, Saturday
World Day Against Speciesism is an international campaign to raise awareness of the problem of speciesism and promote the idea of equal treatment of all animal species. The day is usually observed on the last Saturday of August and is organized by various animal rights groups, animal rights activists and activists who strive to protect animal rights and stop human exploitation of living beings. What is Speciesism?
Speciesism is the concept that humans value their own species above other animals, based on the assumption that humans are inherently superior to all other creatures. This approach is used to justify cruelty to animals, their exploitation in various fields, such as factory farming, medical experiments, entertainment (circuses, zoos), and hunting.
Objectives of World Day Against Speciesism
Raising awareness of the problem. This day is dedicated to drawing attention to the problem of species discrimination and cruelty to animals that are considered "inferior" to humans.
Changing worldviews. Activists strive to change people's views on animals so that they begin to perceive them not as a resource or property, but as living beings that deserve respect and rights.
Promotion of vegetarianism and veganism. Numerous events within the framework of this day focus on promoting the rejection of animal products and the transition to a plant-based diet as a way to reduce the exploitation of animals.
Legislative changes. The celebration of this day also includes calls for governments and international organizations to introduce new laws and regulations that would ensure the protection of animals from cruelty and exploitation.
Events and actions
Protests and rallies. On this day, protests and rallies are held around the world aimed at against species discrimination and all its manifestations. Activists take to the streets with slogans and posters calling for equal treatment of all living beings.
Information campaigns. Various seminars, lectures, and webinars are organized to educate people about animal rights, the ethical issues associated with factory farming, and alternatives such as veganism.
Virtual events. Activists launch campaigns on social media with hashtags such as #EndSpeciesism or #WorldDayAgainstSpeciesism, urging internet users to share information, videos, and articles on the topic of species discrimination.
