Doctor's Day
October 23, Thursday
History of the holiday
The date October 23 was chosen in honor of Saint Luke the Evangelist, who in Christian tradition is considered the patron of doctors and artists. On this day, the Catholic Church commemorates him, and therefore in 1937 the Mexican Association of Physicians decided to establish Doctor's Day on this date.
The holiday was officially recognized by the government of Mexico the same year and has since been celebrated annually throughout the country.
Significance of the holiday
This day serves as an expression of gratitude to medical professionals who work every day to protect people's health and lives. It emphasizes the importance of medicine, medical ethics, and continuous professional development.
