June 1 is National Maritime (Merchant Marine) Day, in honor of the Tabasco, the first ship crewed exclusively by Mexican-born sailors (1917) and the Potrero del Llano and Faja de Oro, Mexican oil tankers sunk on May 13 and 20, 1942, during World War II.
