Guadalupe Virgin Day is celebrated annually on December 12 and is one of the most important religious holidays in Mexico and throughout the Catholic world. It is dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico and Latin America, whose image is considered a symbol of hope, protection, and national identity.

History of the holiday
The holiday is associated with the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the indigenous Juan Diego in December 1531 on the hill of Tepeyac, near present-day Mexico City. According to tradition, Mary conveyed a message of love and compassion and left her miraculous image on Juan Diego's cloak (tilma). This miracle became the foundation of the cult of the Virgin of Guadalupe and later became a central element of Mexico's spiritual life.

Traditions and celebrations
The festivities are distinguished by their scale and special emotionality:
– solemn masses at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City;
– multi-day pilgrimages attended by millions of faithful each year;
– processions with hymns, dances, and traditional costumes;
– offerings of flowers and candles at the sacred image;
– performances by mariachi bands, performing the serenade "Las Mañanitas" in honor of the Virgin Mary.

Significance of the holiday
For Mexicans, this day has deep spiritual and cultural meaning. The Virgin of Guadalupe is considered a symbol of national unity, protector of the poor and oppressed, as well as a mediator of mercy and peace. The holiday brings together people of different generations and social groups, strengthening the sense of belonging to a shared cultural heritage.
