World Animal Day
October 4, Saturday

History of the holiday
The idea of World Animal Protection Day was proposed in 1931 at an international conference of animal welfare supporters in Florence, Italy. The date of October 4 was chosen deliberately — on this day, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and nature. Since then, the holiday has become international and annually draws attention to animal protection issues.
Traditions and customs
* Educational campaigns and lectures are held on animal protection, pet rights, and wildlife conservation.
* Animal welfare organizations organize exhibitions, fundraising events, and activities for animal shelters.
* Schools and children's centers conduct themed lessons and events to foster respect for animals.
* Volunteers and activists organize flash mobs, demonstrations, and campaigns to protect animals.
Significance for society
World Animal Protection Day helps raise public awareness about animal rights and needs, supports shelters and reserves, and strengthens understanding of human responsibility for the environment. This holiday reminds people of the importance of caring for our smaller companions and living in harmony with nature.
